Maximum safety for SCWS protected works on the track
SCWS means "Signal Controlled Warning Systems". This is where the timely warning of personnel on the track takes place on the basis of train movement information from the signalling system (interlocking, control system). This achieves the most efficient and highest safety standard of warning while maintaining driving operation. In addition to the warning function, SCWS can be equipped with the function of train restraint, which means that train movements can be held back until the personnel on the track have confirmed that the danger zone has been cleared.
And this is how the system works
Signal controlled warning systems usually consist of an indoor system, which is located in the interlocking and processes the train movement information there, and an outdoor system, which warns the personnel on the worksite of the train movements. Communication between the indoor and outdoor systems is wireless via GSM-R or similar technologies.
